About Mrs. Carrico... [email protected]
I love teaching First Grade and I have a fabulous team that I work with in Ms. Biggert, Ms. Cowie and Ms. Waldron! Barnard is a great school to work and learn at! Teaching first grade is wonderful because they come to school so eager to learn each day. Every day I learn something new from them and they surprise me with all of their insight at even such a young age! I first started teaching for the Berkley School District in 2010 as a third grade teacher and then teaching one year as a middle school resource room teacher. I had the opportunity to transfer to Troy Schools in 2012 where I worked as a resource room teacher at Leonard and Baker Middle School. I have been teaching first grade at Barnard for five years.
I graduated from Central Michigan University in 2010 with a double major in Child Development and Special Education. I then proceeded to get my Masters degree from Marygrove College in Elementary Reading. I specialized with individualizing instruction to meet the needs of all learners. I am a mother to two boys Nolan and Cade. I reside in Clarkston with my husband Mike (we have known each other since first grade) and our German Shorthaired Pointer, Koda. I love to read, vacation, spend time with our friends and pretty much do anything outdoors.

About Miss Biggert... [email protected]
I am very excited for this school year! As I get to know all of you and your children, I would also like you to know a little about me. I attended Central Michigan University, where I received my bachelors degree in Elementary Education. I went on to complete my student teaching and a long term guest teacher position here at Barnard. I then moved to California to teach. After teaching in California, I returned home and taught in Madison Heights. I am very excited to continue my journey here at Barnard! Although I do not have my own children yet, I am a proud mother to my two fur babies; Kyle and Cashew. I'm looking forward to an amazing year full of adventures!

About Ms. Cowie... [email protected]
I am thrilled to have the opportunity to teach your child this year. I left my 14-year banking career in 2001 to pursue my lifelong goal to teach, and to spend more time with my daughters, Sarah and Shannon. Sarah has graduated from Albion College and works as an Accountant at a local firm. Shannon completed two years at Western Michigan University and is now attending college locally. I graduated from Oakland University in December 2003 after successfully completing my student teaching internship in a first grade classroom at Bemis Elementary School in Troy. I have a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education, taught preschool in the Birmingham School District and then launched Troy’s Building Blocks preschool program at Hamilton Elementary School. I attended graduate school at Oakland University and earned my Early Childhood Endorsement and master’s degree in Reading in Language Arts. I taught first grade at Hamilton Elementary in Troy for six (6) years, then was the Reading Specialist for three (3) years. I returned to the first grade classroom in 2013 and moved to Barnard Elementary.
My goal is to make learning FUN for your child, while at the same time promoting a sense of responsibility and self worth. I wish to instill in your child the desire to learn and grow and to be the best he or she can be. I am eager to include parents and caregivers in the classroom, and you will be receiving more information in upcoming communications regarding this. I am excited to be a part of the Barnard staff and look forward to a great year in first grade!

About Mrs. Waldron...[email protected]
I am thrilled to teach first grade at Barnard. I chose to switch from third grade because I missed teaching lower elementary. I feel so lucky to have such an amazing team to teach with. Before third grade, I taught Kindergarten at Barnard and before that I taught a program call PACE (Program for Accelerated and Creative Education)
I live in downtown Royal Oak with my two awesome children. My son Michael keeps us busy playing baseball and soccer. He loves to play at the park and hang out with his friends. My daughter Riley loves animals and drawing. She is my little buddy and wants to do anything she can with her momma. We love riding our bikes together and hanging out at the pool in the summer.
I attended Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Michigan. I received my Masters of Instruction from Central Michigan University. I recently finished my thirtieth credit above my Master degree. I love to teach and learn. I will never stop learning and growing.
In my free time I enjoy family time, reading, shopping, yoga and riding my bike. I am excited to watch your child learn and grow in first grade!
